Mederma is advertised as the “#1 doctor- and pharmacist-recommended product for scars” and is found in most drug stores as well as online. Mederma is made from a patented botanical extract to form a greaseless gel that can be used on old and new scars as well as stretch marks. The Mederma website states that Mederma is best used on newly formed stretch marks (depending on your skin color, stretch marks start out as pinkish, reddish brown, or dark brown streaks). Once stretch marks have faded to a silvery white, they do not respond as well to Mederma.

Actual Customer Feedback: "I can definitely recommend to you NOT wasting your money on a product called Mederma. I had several people, including dermatologists, recommend this to me for some slight white-ish stretch marks on my hips from a teenage growth spurt, too, and it did nothing except make my skin silky soft."
Portion of actual customer review on EssentialDaySpa.com forums "Mederma did NOT work on my stretch marks. I'm not opposed to trying it on conventional scars, but in a side-by-side comparison on stretch marks, Mederma did NOT pass the test." Portion of actual customer review on Epinions.com "You have to be patient with this, and it is going to take at least three tubes, but this product does work. It's funny because I didn't see any difference in four months, and then one morning I woke up, and my stretch marks were invisible." Portion of actual customer review on Drugstore.com Our Research on Mederma Found: According to the unbiased reviews and user comments we found, Mederma is a good product for healing scars, but not for stretch marks. Most customers found that the product simply did not work for stretch marks regardless of the amount of time they used it. More than a few customers have noted that the product makes their skin itchy when it is applied and that the product often peeled off. However, there were a few customers that were pleased with their use of it for stretch marks. It is possible that these customers had very new stretch marks that were less severe. In general, if you are looking to erase your stretch marks, you'll have to go to a product other than Mederma. |
